This is a double whammy, with Randall Platt (author of eight novels, some optioned for film) presenting her expertise on Saturday and Christine Fletcher (two published novels) on Sunday. Both are well-respected young-adult authors and have a lot to contribute on how/what to write for this genre and about what is selling today. The workshop will be held in the Portland area. For information contact Martha Miller.

Saturday: Randall Platt

Randall Platt writes fiction for adults and young adults (and those who don't own up to being either). Platt, a lifelong resident of the Pacific Northwest, has been a full-time writer for twenty-five years (which, in other words, is certainly long enough to know better!) Platt finds no shortage of fascinating characters and stories that spring from the beautiful Northwest region and nearly all her novels take place in Washington or Oregon.  One of Platt's books has been made into a film and two others are currently optioned. Her novels have won many accolades and six have been recently released as audio books. Platt's latest young adult novel (from Texas Tech University Press) is Hellie Jondoe, and is available at booksellers everywhere.

Sunday: Christine Fletcher

Christine Fletcher is the author of two critically acclaimed young adult novels. Her first, Tallulah Falls, was named a Book for the Teen Age by the New York Public Library and chosen for the Texas Tayshas reading list. Her second, Ten Cents a Dance, was awarded a Blue Ribbon by the Bulletin of the Center for Children’s Books, a Top Ten Best Book for Young Adults by the American Library Association, a Jefferson Cup Honor Book by the Virginia Library Association, a finalist for the 2008 Cybils Award, and has been chosen for several state school reading lists, including Texas Tayshas. In addition to being a writer Christine is also a veterinarian. She lives in Portland, Oregon, with her boyfriend of many years and an assortment of rescued animals. She is currently working on her third novel.
