Writing Group Speed Dating! Last Minute Gifts! Fun!

The Oregon Writers Colony invites the literary community to the Writers’ Dojo in St. John’s for a free night of Christmas cheer, Oregon books, and connecting with other scribblers.

After some liquid encouragement, literary provocateur Sarah Gilbert will be leading us in a rousing round of Writing Group Speed Dating. Tired of the same old writer’s pickup lines (“Your writing teacher must have been a thief, because she stole poetry and put it in your prose!”), or getting sent on blind dates with writers whose fiction is described as “voicey” by your cousin but ends up sounding more like it was “written by a sparkly vampire”? Take control of your future writing relationships!

Writing Group Speed Dating works like regular speed dating, which we have seen on TV, so we’re experts. You’ll meet other writers also looking for groups, and score them (secretly!) on their compatibility. At the end of the evening, we’ll share contact info with those who mutually agree they’d be good matches, and give you a guidelines to setting critique group standards and expectations. (Participation in Writing Group Speed Dating is encouraged but not mandatory.)

We’ll also have books by Oregon writers for sale, and Oregon Book Club gift certificates to stuff those stockings.
