Mentor, Shaindel Beers (Poetry)

Poet, author, and English instructor coach Shaindel Beers will be offering private one-on-one editorial consultations as part of our Mentor in the House weekend program, with a focus on poetry. Writers seeking a professional eye on their projects should consider this unique opportunity to work closely with an accomplished writer and teacher.

For the weekend, Ms. Beers will live and write at the Colonyhouse, a historic log cabin on the Oregon Coast at Rockaway Beach, and will be available for personally tailored hour-long consultations with each retreat participant. In addition to plenty of time to write over the weekend, an optional Saturday night sharing allows participants to workshop their writing in a relaxed atmosphere with the mentor and other retreat-goers.
 
 

Shaindel Beers’ poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction have appeared in many journals and anthologies. She has taught at colleges and universities in Illinois and Florida but feels settled in Pendleton, Oregon, where she lives with her partner Jared and son Liam. She is currently an instructor of English at Blue Mountain Community College, and serves as Poetry Editor of Contrary. Her two full-length poetry collections are A Brief History of Time (2009) and The Children’s War and Other Poems (2013), both from Salt Publishing. Shaindel is currently working on a short story collection for Press 53 as well.
 

Cost:
The cost of the retreat is $150 for members, and $190 for non-members. (The non-member price includes a one-year OWC membership.) This price includes shared lodging at the Colonyhouse. Private rooms are also available (see below for pricing). Participants are expected to provide their own food and bedding. A communal meal may be arranged with the consent of the mentor.
 

Cancellation Policy:
All cancellations are subject to a $50 cancellation fee. Cancellations received SEVEN (7) DAYS before the program date are refundable. Sending in this form or signing up at the website indicates that you have read and understand the cancellation policy.
