How to make critique groups work
OWC is now offering the opportunity for writers to meet with like-minded individuals in a comfortable and organized environment.
In this six-week series, you’ll learn the secrets of starting and maintaining a successful critique group. Topics include how to create a writing group, find members, and set goals and rules. You’ll also have the opportunity to workshop a section of your writing and participate in effective group interaction: giving, receiving, and digesting constructive criticism with an open mind.
After five weeks, the workshop leader will set you free, and you’ll run a writing group meeting on your own. We hope, of course, that the group will go on beyond our six-week workshop. But if not, you’ll be equipped with the skills to launch your own group.
Take the next step toward publication with Becky Kjelstrom, an experienced group facilitator who has spent many years as a critique group member and leader. Becky is the author of The Wedding Chase (writing as Rebecca Kelley), and her short stories and articles have appeared in Grimm Tales, Sweet Dreams, and The Hardy Plant Society Journal. She has also written curriculum for Emotions Management and Cognitive Behavioral Change.
