I In
Other Words Bookstore, the sole remaining non-profit feminist bookstore in the
United States, will host a reading by Portland author Beren
deMotier from her
book, The
Brides of March: Memoir of a Same-Sex Marriage, on June 17, 2008 at
6:30 pm, followed by a lively discussion of same-sex marriage remembered, in
honor of PRIDE!. The
Brides of March is a giddy and heartbreaking tale of getting married,
celebrated, lost in legal limbo and annulled by state supreme
court decision when Gail Balden was one of nine featured authors selected for the 3rd annual Cannon Beach Writes event. She read “Glimpses of Small Town Life,” a column previously published in the North Coast Citizen. Her essay, “Traffic Report From the Mountain” will be published in the Spring, 2008 edition of RAIN. From Laura LeHew: My poem, raincrow,
was accepted for publication
in the June issue of Rattlesnake Review. My poem, "The Anatomy of
Germs," was accepted for publication in the anthology WILD THINGS:
DOMESTIC OR OTHERWISE, a trade paper original published by Outrider Press,
Inc. in affiliation with the TallGrass Writers Guild. Oh, and I'll be reading at
the Woman Made Gallery at the Her Mark 2009
Release Party on Sunday, August 3 from 2-4pm in Chicago. From David Levine: I am
immensely proud to say that my first collection of short stories, "Space
Magic," will be published by Wheatland Press (http://www.wheatlandpress.com/)
in May. A whole book all to myself! It has 15 of my science fiction
and fantasy stories, including the Hugo-winning "Tk'Tk'Tk" and the
multiple-award-nominated "The Tale of the Golden Eagle," as well as
the previously-unpublished bonus track "Falling off the Unicorn."

Bill Dolan: I submitted a manuscript to the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award contest and have moved to the semi-final round. Vintage Justice, a legal thriller set in Oregon's wine country, was selected as one of the 800 or so novels to make the first cut from 5000 entries. An excerpt from the novel is available on Amazon.com for free and customers can post reviews. The next phase of the contest will be based on manuscript reviews by Publishers Weekly and the customer reviews. The contest is a bit like American Idol for novelists but it has been fun and I will appreciate having my story professionally reviewed. I would also appreciate any reviews or critiques of the manuscript from other writers
