Colony board member Nyla McCarthy’s short story, A Few Freak Things, was selected for publication in the upcoming summer issue, themed “Transformation,” of the prestigious Timberline Review. The story is excerpted from McCarthy’s forthcoming memoir of coming to age within, then escaping, the poverty and chaos ridden Oregon timber family life she’d been raised to believe was her destiny.

Timberline Review, published quarterly, is a publication of Willamette Writers.

Issue 11, Transformation, will be released during the Willamette Writer’s Conference at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Portland, Oregon, August 5–7, 2022. The issue will be available in print and online.
