The 2017 OWC Annual Conference will be held at the Sylvia Beach Hotel Friday evening through Sunday morning, May 5-7, 2017. The conference will feature writer David Corbett and literary agent Bernadette Baker-Baughman.
David Corbett will teach about The Art of Character, the same title as his book, The Art of Character, which national bestselling writer Elizabeth Brundage called “a writer’s bible that will lead to your character’s soul.”
He teaches and gives seminars and workshops at conferences throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico. His articles on craft and theory have appeared in the New York Times, Narrative, Writer’s Digest (where he is a contributing editor), The Writer, Zyzzyva, MovieMaker, Bright Ideas, Crimespree, and other outlets. His many novels and short works have been widely acclaimed, and he’s a regular contributor to the writers’ blog Writer Unboxed.
Bernadette Baker-Baughman is an agent with Victoria Sanders & Associates. She is interested in representing commercial adult, YA, and middle-grade fiction, nonfiction, and graphic novels. In fiction, she gravitates towards books with a wide audience access point — specifically books with cultural or contemporary touchstones (reimaginings, historical fiction, fiction based on legend or myth, fiction with fantastical elements that are part of the cultural collective imagination, steampunk, etc). In nonfiction, she is looking for image-rich books, pop culture, art, quirky gift books, light sociology, and narrative nonfiction.
