mOregon Writers Colony offers writing residencies and retreats, intimate workshops, and one-day gatherings at our historic Steiner log cabin home in Rockaway Beach. Our beloved Colonyhouse is one of only two such hand-hewn houses on the Oregon Coast.

Sited atop Rockaway’s oceanside dune, Colonyhouse offers a panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean to the west and views of Lake Lytle and the foothills of the Oregon Coast Range to the east.

Rockaway’s unique, old-time beach-town culture, paired with the grandeur and accessibility of Oregon’s temperate raincoast and the warm, timeless charm of Colonyhouse, offers writers a one-of-a-kind, world-class writing opportunity. 

Our noncompetitive, paid residencies are open to all writers who apply. Application fees and memberships subsidize our residency program and help us keep providing affordable time and space for writers to immerse themselves in their craft. Small cohorts, writing partners, and other literary groups are also welcome at Colonyhouse.

We offer five- and three-day residencies and retreats (Sunday afternoon through Friday morning and Friday afternoon through Sunday morning).
