Writing Retreats

Oregon Writers Colony allows writers to enjoy creative retreats at Colonyhouse—a cabin on the Oregon coast. These noncompetitive, paid retreats are open to all writers who apply. Application fees and memberships subsidize our retreat program and allow us to continue providing affordable time and space for writers to immerse themselves in their craft. Small cohorts, writing partners, and other literary groups are also welcome at Colonyhouse.

Using Colonyhouse

Colonyhouse is a beautiful historical Steiner log cabin on the coast of Oregon in Rockaway Beach. Sitting on top of a dune, it offers a panoramic view of  the Pacific Ocean to the west, and Lake Lytle to the east. 

With three bedrooms which can accomodate up to six people, Colonyhouse is perfect for a group writing retreat, or a solo writing getaway.

Important Notes!

Colonyhouse sits on top of  a hill and requires the ability to walk up stairs. Please take this into consideration before sending an application.

The Fireplace is in need of restoration and currently isn’t serviceable. Please do not use the fireplace right now.

Off-Season Retreat Fees (Sept. 1-May 31):

     Five-day week (Sunday 4:00pm-Friday 2:00pm) – $500

     Weekend (Friday 4:00pm-Sunday 2:00pm) – $350

     Extra weekdays (if available) – $100 per day

Summer Retreat Fees (June 1-August 31):

     Five-day week (Sunday 4:00pm-Friday 2:00pm) – $625

     Weekend (Friday 4:00pm-Sunday 2:00pm) – $400

     Extra weekdays (if available) – $125
